East Coast Nights: Day 2
Today was the kind of day I have grown to dread whenever I am visiting my hometown. Ever since my college days, the "Let's get you some warm clothes to wear while you're home" clothes-shopping jaunt has been a useless routine that rarely if ever has positive results. Yet, I continue to let my mother talk me into such ventures.Although yesterday's post says it was published 11:59pm (so too will today's), it was actually written at 3:30am when I could not sleep. Blogging, much like a Flexeril/Ambien cocktail, proved to be a perfect sleep-inducer. Unfortunately, my yenta mother started yelling at someone over the phone at eight o'clock this morning, and the shrill tone of her Jew-voice awakened me from my light slumber. When I made my presence known (with a swift "Who the fuck are you yelling at so loudly?"), she made sure to point out that I had started my day early, which meant we could go clothes shopping before I had to go across town for that haircut she scheduled for me. Jesus Christ, it was still five a.m. in LA-time, and it was turning into one of those days...We drove to the mall and went into a store. She asked if I saw anything I liked and I commented on how the store smelled like an old man. She held up a sweater and asked if liked it, so I asked her if she'd like it if she got a phone call in the middle of the night informing her that I was beaten to death for looking like a fag. She called me "rigid" and "impossible," so I let her pick out some kind of long-sleeved dressy shirt to quiet her perpetual character judgements. We grabbed some socks and underwear, then walked to another store. This one made me feel even worse than the first store, and I did my best to let her know that I wasn't comfortable wearing any of the clothes there. I told her every shirt looked like what a 1950s Ivy Leaguer would wear to play football or rugby, and I just wanted something that didn't have elbow pads or a collar or any inherent implications about my perceived sexuality. We returned to the first store and I picked out a bitchin' wool sweater with snowflakes on it. She laughed and told me I wasn't going to a Christmas party, and I told that I wanted to feel like I could go to a shitty office Christmas party whenever I wanted to, and that I was getting the sweater. So, I did. I think I love it.We drove to the local hair salon and I had my hair cut. It was brief and painless, and afterwards I looked a little less like a psycho. Unfortunately, the stylist trimmed my sideburns with an electric razor, so I was forced to go home and shave or I'd be walking around with weird strips of shaved hair where my dirty scruff meets my sideburns. She dropped me off at my father's house, where I played with the dog and waited for him to finish his work day. I got some more cataloging done, but I won't be ready with a complete list of my record collection in time for tomorrow's WFMU Record Fair. My father and I went to Winberies for dinner. No Andy Breckman sightings to report. Afterwards, I returned to Jack's to hang out with him and Ken and Katie. They showed up with a bottle of wine AND a bottle of Jim Beam. We shot more pool and played some video game called Rock Band on the Xbox. It was fun for a while, until the drums broke. I was beginning to fade at 1:00am so I snuck out of the house. Of course, it's 3:30am again and I'm not asleep. I have to be awake in five and a half hours.Record Fair tomorrow all day. I'll post all about it (including some pictures) upon my return. Wish my luck! If you see me, say hello.Tags: clothes shopping, haircut, lunch, breakfast, Winberies, dinner, WFMU Record Fair, Rock Band, Xbox, shaving, sweaters, snowflakes, coldness, record collectors

Looking forward to summer
Working for the summer shows. I will never have enough, I work constantly, but I can't think of a funner, more satisfying way to make a living. This year might be rough, but I am LOOKING FORWARD TO SUMMER........ Just another of my wilderness collages. This is the beginning of my newest one. This is another stage......I have to keep looking at it until I feel satisfied....at this point there were still things bothering me. For instance, the primitive stitching around the postmark didn't look right.......and I thought I needed a verse, so here it is....... Now, I feel like it is complete, except it needs a frame.........

Using Chocolate Molds to Make Jell-O Jigglers
Using Chocolate Molds to Make Jell-O JigglersEver wondered what else you could do with all of those chocolate molds you have laying around? Jell-O jigglers are a fun way to get some additional use out of them and kids love them. They look absolutely adorable and taste great too! Any type of 3-D animal mold is sure to be a hit with your child. Chocolate molds that are a little deeper than normal work the best. Most plastic chocolate molds can withstand temperatures up to 160 degrees Fahrenheit so don't worry about them melting. To prepare the chocolate mold, spray lightly with a cooking spray.Follow the recipe on the Jell-O box for the Jell-O jigglers, not the regular Jell-O recipe which is too soft. You will not be able to pull it out of the mold without breaking it apart. Once the Jell-O is prepared, pour into the molds, being careful not to overfill. I find that during this step it is beneficial to have the molds sitting on a cookie sheet or something not too flexible so that you will be able to easily move the molds from the counter to the refrigerator. Chocolate molds tend to be slightly flexible so moving can be difficult without spilling once full. Let the Jell-O set up in the refrigerator. Once the Jell-O has solidified, remove the molds from the refrigerator and gently pull Jell-O away from the sides of the mold to loosen and then pull completely out of the chocolate mold. If you have to really pry and pull it out, it should bounce right back into shape. You're done. Enjoy! For one of the largest selections of chocolate molds on the internet click here Chocolate Molds.

Fears of Sri Lanka 'catastrophe'
A Trooper featured in Threat of Peace issue six
BioWare seems to have planned the announcement of their newest class for Star Wars: The Old Republic at just the right time. A character -- presumably a Trooper himself by his appearance -- in the latest issue of the free online comic Threat of Peace proves that the class is quite up to the task of dealing with strong enemies in its own right. While the newest issue is a little light on story, the message is still clear: Troopers are cool, m'kay? The few-pages-every-week-or-two free online comic structure isn't an entirely new concept, but it's proven to work fairly well and seems to be doing the lore of Star Wars: The Old Republic decent justice. Now we've just got to sit tight for more of those voiced archives for the real meaty info while we get our visual fix from Threat of Peace.

how to deal with negative people
Inspite of negative response you tried to stay strong, but you end up exhausted and stress.
Most of the time why those people are negative is because they feel frustrated trapped and lack of self esteem. some people thingk the only way they can feel powerful is by hurting others.
Whenever there is negativity just smile, dont say anything remain competely detached from it and dont get involved in it, leave the room if you can. The negative person is seeking to get a response from you.
Say to your self what a shame this person is so unhappy, and hope that some of your positive ways will rub off one you.

Publication Date: 2009 Apr 28 PMID: 19401466Authors: Wu, J. B. - Chen, K. - Ou, X. M. - Shih, J. C.Journal: J Biol ChemMonoamine oxidase (MAO) B deaminates a number of biogenic and dietary amines, and plays an important role in many biological processes. Among hormonal regulations of MAO B, we have recently found that retinoic acid (RA) significantly activates both MAO B promoter activity and mRNA expression in a human neuroblastoma BE(2)C cell line. RA activates MAO B promoter in both concentration- and time-dependent manners, which is mediated through retinoic acid receptor a (RARa) and retinoid X receptor a (RXRa). There are four retinoic acid response elements (RAREs) as identified in the MAO B 2 kb promoter, and mutation of the third RARE reduced RA-induced MAO B promoter activation by 50%, suggesting this element is important. Electrophoretic mobility shift analysis and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) assay demonstrated that RARa specifically binds to the third RARE both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, transient transfection and luciferase assays revealed that Sp1 enhances but not essentially required for the RA activation of MAO B through two clusters of Sp1-binding sites in the MAO B promoter. RARa physically interacts with Sp1 via zinc finger domains in Sp1 as determined by co-immunoprecipitation assay. Further, RARa was shown to be recruited by Sp1 and to form a transcriptional regulation complex with Sp1 in the Sp1-binding sites of natural MAO B promoter. Taken together, this study provides evidence for the first time showing the stimulating effect of RA on MAO B and new insight into the molecular mechanisms of MAO B regulation by hormones.post to: CiteULike

Dynamic Views for Business Applications
This year at EclipseCon in Santa Clara I presented first time the new Open Source project "redView" - started from Florian Pirchner and me.The session was presented without the usual "slides-to-read-while-speaker-speaks". I was inspired by the book "Zen and the Art of Presentation" to make another kind of presentation. But if you present a session in Zen - style, you couldn't only publish your slides to people not hearing you live. A Zen - style - session is only the half of work - you also have to publish detailed technical informations in an extra document. In this case - those details will be published soon at redview.org to download. If you were not at EclipseCon or visited another slot and want to know what I have presented, you're not lost - you can watch a Video Podcast:ekkes - corner - tv just startedAs an addition to my blogs in english and german language now I also will publish regular an english Video Podcast at ekkes - corner - tv.org:I'll talk about and make live-demos about:Eclipse as IDE and Platform for RCP and ServerOSGI - EquinoxEclipse PDE (OSGI Bundle Tooling)Eclipse Riena (Remoting, UI)EasyBeans (EJB3 OSGI Bundles)Drools (Rules Engine, Business Process Flows)redView (Riena EMF Dynamic Views)open-erp-ware (OSGI - ERP - Enterprise Application)Model-Driven Development (oAW - OpenArchitectureWare XPand, XTend, Xtext, Workflow)and more...If you want to subscribe my Video Podcast:open iTunes Store, search for „ekkes-corner“ and subscribe. There are two different formats available: for iPod/iPhone and for Desktop/AppleTV). If you don't use iTunes Store you can read it directly from my web site: ekkes-corner-tv.org or subscribe RSS Feed from there. The first episode presents the redView Session from EclipseCon.EclipseCon was as usual: very short nights - but also much fun to meet all the friends again and to learn much.Next months will be very hard:redView should be published beginning of may 2009my OSGI - Equinox - Server should run under Galileomy ERP Enterprise App should go live in summer 2009 Not to forget: this month is JAX 2009 in Mainz (Germany) where I speak at OSGI Experts DayThere will be some Blogs and Video Podcasts to reflect all this work... stay tuned...ekke

Do you speak bad words?
I have observed that there are lots of people who speak bad words as a part of their expression. Sometimes there are unaware that there are speaking bad words because they are already used to it until it became a part of their expression. I dont speak bad words that much but i really try to avoid speaking bad words because i want to be a good influence to young childrens. Young childrens just actually imitate what old people are saying and speaking bad words is one of it. I have already heard children as young as 10 years old speaking bad words as if was already a part of his vocabulary.
Where was Ma Ying-jeou born?
Michael Richardson at the Boston Progressive Examiner has posted an image of the birth certificate of Ma Ying-jeou's daughter in an article on Ma's birthplace. He writes:Republic of China in-exile President Ma Ying-jeou attended Harvard Law School in 1980, the year of his daughter's birth in Boston making her a U.S. citizen. As Ma prepared for the duties of fatherhood, he studied the law of international boundaries, writing a controversial error-filled thesis on the topic. One international boundary that Ma somehow lost track of was that of his own birth. Ma now claims to have been born July 13, 1950 in the British colony of Hong Kong and moved to Taiwan when he was one year-old.However, while in Boston, studying international boundary law at Harvard, Ma was maintaining that he was born in mainland China in Shenzhen of Guangdong Province and not in the Britishcolony......While no one is responsible for the location of their own birth, one's birthplace can indeed change the course of a life. Ma seems to have a floating birthplace. We are left to speculate because Ma has never publicly answered to why, if he was born in Hong Kong, he falsely stated in Massachusetts at the time of his daughter's birth that he was born in Shenzhen, China.....A Taiwanese legislator, Chai Trong-rong, raised the issue recently of the Massachusetts birth certificate charging that, if true, Ma is a full-fledged citizen of the People's Republic of China. The political overtones of Chai's quest for truth overshadowed the importance of the question about the inherent truthfulness and veracity of Ma as a political leader.During the election, Hsieh also showed US documents showing that Ma was born in Shenzhen. Ma's birthplace would not be an issue, except that Ma himself has made an issue of it, claiming he was conceived in Taiwan and born in Hong Kong. He also famously told Lee Teng-hui that he was a Taiwanese born in Wanhua.

Giving it away
Will the rich become less charitable?IN JUNE 2006 the then two richest men on the planet performed a remarkable ceremony. Warren Buffett, an eminent investor, agreed to hand over the bulk of his fortune to the foundation run by Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft. It was a gesture that recalled the philanthropic heyday of Andrew Carnegie, the late-19th-century steel baron who became famous for funding public libraries. How typical is such generosity of modern billionaires? Frustratingly, it is very hard to tell. The endowments of American foundations more than doubled between 1996 and 2006, but the increase only just kept pace with the rise in the total wealth of the Forbes 400 over that period. There is no evidence that the rich have been getting more, or less, generous.

Obama Offers Health Care Concessions
Weren't the Republicans FURIOUS about the idea of health care reform being passed without support of any of them and with them being unable to filibuster?
Haven't the Republicans wanted malpractice reform for years?
Hasn't the GOP being crying that there's no "bipartisanship" since the new Administration and new Congress have "taken over"?
...So, right there in the Cabinet Room, the President put a proposal on the table, according to two people who were present. Obama said he was willing to curb malpractice awards, a move long sought by Republicans that is certain to bring strong opposition from the trial lawyers who fund the Democratic Party.
What, he wanted to know, did the Republicans have to offer in return?
Nothing, it turned out. Republicans were unprepared to make any concessions, if they had any to make...

Tweaking the Eclipse Development Process
A while ago, I compared the Eclipse Development Process (EDP) to that of the Rational Unified Processs. The EDP specifically addresses the steps that a eclipse project goes through to be released. It addresses a little bit on management, and touches only briefly on technical practices of actual development. I've been told that the Eclipse Foundation feels that how the code is developed is best left up to the individual projects. In general, I'm okay with that, as not every team works best the same way. However, for those teams that want to be more agile in their development, and incorporate some more technical practices what can be done? The EDP, as can be seen by the picture above, focuses on 6 week iterations. With one week for planning and one week for stabilization. In many cases during the plan, develop, stabilize you could write "Magic Black Box Here". As we all know that the magic black box solves it all. There are some problems from an agile point of view with the EDP. First, a team that wants to implement an agile development process, they may not need a complete week for planning. They may not even need a stabilization week. Planning can be shortened to a day, and a week for stabilization may not even be needed. The EDP also does not specify the technical practices to accomplish this. It's written from a managements point of view. The EDP is a management process. It is running into some of the same issues that SCRUM by itself experiences. SCRUM is an agile project management practice. Organizations that only implement an agile project management solution may not be gaining the full benefit of the solution. In fact, many companies or projects that just adopt SCRUM by itself, are not any more successful than the waterfall methodologies they replaced. In my opinion, where the these highly focused project management solutions fail, is not addressing the technical practices that are needed to make them a success. SCRUM is a great project management addition to other agile practices like XP, FDD, BDD, and TDD. With out some of the disciplines of the technical practices no project management practice is going to succeed.Over the coming weeks, I'll start to focus in on how I think the EDP can be enhanced with a bit of SCRUM for project management, and pieces of XP for project development. There are pain points that I'll try to address including technical debt, builds that are never green (or rarely), and last minute cram sessions. Ideally an eclipse project should be able to declare a milestone or release quality build at any given day. Impossible? Unlikely? It can be done, it just takes a bit more discipline on our parts as committers to make it happen.

Do you put on make up when driving?
If you leave home in hurry to go to work, do you use the driving time to put on make up?? I don't drive yet because I have hubby to drive me to places. I don't think I would be one of the people that cut nails or draw eyeline when I'm driving since I'm very careful of those thing especially I would be new to drive. I have seen girls put on mascara really, I thought it was impressive but it seems like it is very common thing that people do

When I started writing this post this morning, I was going to share how Sarah and Leah had made it through their sickness, then IT happened, but I'll get to that in a minute. So Sarah has made it through her first virus/cold and ear infection. I noticed Christmas Eve that she seemed fussy and a little off. By Sunday she was in full blown sickness. She had a fever, cough, loss of appetite and some tummy issues. After several days of no improvement, I listened to my mommy instinct and took her to the doctor. Well, I'm glad I did and so was the doctor because she needed antibiotics. Today is her last day of antibiotics and she seems mostly better, but we'll know for sure Wednesday when she has a check-up.At the same time Sarah was sick, Leah also had a horrible cough. She had her cough for about a week then she was all better. *This is the surviving part I was talking about* Then came today. I noticed Leah kept saying she was hungry even though she had been eating all morning. While Leah is my best eater out of the three of them, I thought something's not right. Then she started asking for lunch while she was eating a cracker. I told her we were going to get lunch on the way to the store. After eating lunch she insisted again that she was still hungry. So I asked her "Are you sure your hungry or does your tummy hurt?" To which she answered "NO, I'm hungry." Well it wasn't until we were in the store, have way through our shopping, that her story changed from hungry to hurting. When she started quitely moaning and clutching her stomach, then I knew we were in trouble! I made my way to the check out and was standing in line when IT happened. She threw up!!! When I told my hubby what had happened he said "How embarrasing!'' To which I replied "No, not really. There was no body in front or behind me and the cashier just gave me a bag and some paper towels to clean it up." Such is the life of a mother. So while my thoughts this morning were that we survived a sickness, a new one begins. Hopefully not for to long :)

Do you talk a lot
Do you think that you are a talkative person? Or have you felt any one else talkative. In my case i am talkative at times . My boy friend had told me that i talk a lots. Actually frankly speaking If no one talks its better some one talks at least . Like when ever i talk through phone with my boy friend i am the one who always talk as he is a quiet person. Phone is for talking right? Ya i know everything has a limit . But what to it i am sometimes little talkative . Then what about you all .
How to treat sunburn?
what a great weekend we had, sunny and hot. But, with the sun and hot weather we get sunburned if we do not take caution. And so I did. Just on my chest I have a nasty sunburn and now it is warm and it´s itches bad. I have used aftersunoil and it helps a bit. But, what I should have done was having something to put on to be safed from it, and I did not. Hopefully we have the same great weather on the wedding day, and this time I will use protection against sunburning. I never get brown on my skin from the sun, I become red and burned. I shore need to use protection. So,how about You do you have the problem of not being brown in the sun?

I have had a lot of inquiries about what is going on with the latest versions of jetty being talked about and what they mean to our users so I figured I would give clearing it up a shot. Greg has recently updated the about page on the jetty eclipse site with some very handy historical (and bleeding edge current) information. Throughout the history of java, jetty has been somewhat a fixture as you can see in the table below, paying particular attention to the rather amusing Status column. Version Home Java HTTP Servlet JSP Status 8.x Eclipse,Codehaus 1.6 HTTP/1.1RFC2616 3.0 2.1 Experimental 7.x Eclipse,Codehaus 1.5,J2ME CLDC HTTP/1.1RFC2616 2.5 2.1 Stabilizing Jetty-6.x Codehaus 1.4-1.5 HTTP/1.1RFC2616 2.5 2.0 Stable Jetty-5.x Sourceforge 1.2-1.5 HTTP/1.1RFC2616 2.4 2.0 Mature Jetty-4.x Sourceforge 1.2 HTTP/1.1RFC2616 2.3 1.2 Ancient Jetty-3.x Sourceforge 1.2 HTTP/1.1RFC2068 2.2 1.1 Fossilized Jetty-2.x Mortbay 1.1 HTTP/1.0RFC1945 2.1 1.0 Legendary Jetty-1.0 Mortbay 1.0 HTTP/1.0RFC1945 Mythical What we see is that jetty has done a pretty solid of performing its major version updates with the updating of the servlet specification, also updating the JDK and JSP versions accordingly. Jetty was well on that track with version 7.0 previously being the first pre-releases of jetty with support for the servlet 3.0 specification, but that has been derailed a bit with the move to eclipse coupled with the postponing of the servlet 3.0 spec until at least the September time frame. Jetty7 has been under development for going on a year next month and it is hardly fair to delay the release of jetty7 and all of the work that has gone on with it until the latter part of the year, much less hold off on released eclipse jetty bundles that long. Jetty pre-release artifacts have been available for a long time and we have been unable to start the release process on it at all because we have been chasing the updated servlet spec. Now that the core of jetty is at Eclipse we need to start the jetty release process as soon as possible to get a stable release available for our users that contains all of the latest and greatest improvements to both packaging and code. We have taken the opportunity to reorganize the packaging of jetty a bit in the migration of jetty to eclipse and the culmination of these changes are available in the first of our jetty milestone releases 7.0.0.M0 which went out last week. Two of the primary changes from previous jetty7 pre-releases are the package changes and the artifact decomposition. The packaging changes consisted of the obvious org.mortbay -> org.eclipse changes but also include the alignment of maven artifact and java package references. Whereas before in jetty6 the org.mortbay.jetty:jetty-util package may have included classes in org.mortbay.component, org.mortbay.thread and org.mortbay.util packages in jetty7 and future versions of jetty will adhere to the convention of all classes in the org.eclipse.jetty:jetty-util artifact being nested under org.eclipse.util package space. This makes using the existing osgi maven tooling ever so much easier to work with and allows us to work in osgi classloaders without a lot of jury-rigging. In fact we were able to pull out the majority of the custom configuration on the org.apache.felix:maven-bundle-plugin and use the default configuration. We were also able to wire in generic support for version ranges in the Import-Package: and Export-Package: manifest entries such that the bundles are automatically configured for [7.0,8) which should allow us better future support for working in osgi and eclipse (more on this in a future post covering the osgi http service and some jetty eclipse plugins I have been working on). As to the artifact decomposition I mentioned, this has to do with cleaning up the transitive dependencies for the using jetty. Jetty is not simply a http server with servlet engine, we also have a robust jetty-client implementation that leverages the solid async implementation under the covers of the jetty server (the soup that lets jetty server scale up to 20k connections). The origin of the client was simple, we needed something on the client side that we could scale up to levels needed to test the server, so jetty-client was born. It is now being used in many interesting places, from proxy server setups to backing the artifact downloads within the maven mercury project. Anyway, the interesting annoyance the was in jetty6 regarding the jetty-client was that it has dependencies on the jetty-server and the servlet-api. Which makes sense given its origins, but was still bothersome to take on another few hundred k of dependencies when all you wanted to use was the client. This has been addressed by the creation of the jetty-io and jetty-http artifacts in jetty7 at eclipse which are shared dependencies of both the jetty-client and the jetty-server and the servlet-api is not longer a dependency of the client. Pretty straight forward stuff but still very important. If you are one of the people that has been tracking the development of the org.mortbay flavor of jetty7, the jetty7 that is located at eclipse should not be fearful as the changes are not overwhelmingly complex at all. Most of the porting work I have done module wise is taken care of in literally minutes and if you have dependencies on the servlet 3.0 api then jetty8 will be addressing those issues in short order. Jetty7 and Jetty8 will be fundamentally the same codebases with jetty8 containing a thin layer of implementation for the servlet 3.0 api changes on top of the already stable jetty7 core codebase. Jetty7 has been stable and ready to being the release process for literally months while we anticipated the move to eclipse and its packaging changes and the release of the servlet 3.0 api. The only thing holding us back on its release has been the eclipse move and the servlet spec release, heck our plans had originally been to release 7.0 on the day of or the day after the 3.0 spec was released anyway. So now we are in the position to get jetty7 released with the servlet 2.5 support that has been supported since its inception last spring and allow our users to start the process of migrating to the latest stable codebase without the rush to support servlet 3.0 spec. In addition the forthcoming jetty8 milestone or pre-releases will be taking the place of the jetty7 pre-releases that previously allowed intrepid folks the ability to work with the developing servlet 3.0 api. Lastly, now that jetty7 and jetty8 are announced and the path for their release should be clearer to all we will start shifting the jetty6 codebase towards a slower maintenance release cycle as we focus on getting jetty7 into the stable category on the chart above. Maybe then we can update the about page again and make jetty5 'venerable' or 'respected' and jetty6 'mature'.
